Caravan Solar Panel for Off Grid Power Supply
Solar Panels are used for caravan, camper trailer, motor home and RV’s to charge the house batteries when not plugged into mains power.
Solar panels convert the sunlight to electricity; direct current (DC) electricity, which is used to charge the caravan batteries. Caravan batteries, typically 12 volt, store the energy and can be thought of as the battery bank.
The battery bank provides 12 volt power to the caravan to power 12 volt electrical appliances. Once the caravan house batteries are 100% full no more energy from the solar panels can be stored in the battery bank.
When the solar panels are exposed to sunlight they will generate charge to the batteries in real time. When there is load on the batteries, (power in the caravan is being drawn from the batteries), the quantity of charge to the batteries from the solar panels will depend on total deficit or surplus of solar charge versus load drawn from the batteries.
When your caravan is not plugged into mains power the caravan house battery will provide (12 volt) power to the caravan fridge, TV, sound system, lights, water pump, hot water, range-hood, fans, exhaust fan and ignition for the gas cooktop and gas oven. All these caravan electrical appliances are typically 12 volt appliance and are powered by the caravan house batteries.

Without a means to charge the caravan house batteries they will eventually drain flat, solar panels; either fixed to the caravan roof or portable solar panels, are becoming a more and more popular means to charge batteries and is the way to camp longer off grid while not plugged into mains.
