What does OFF GRID mean?
🟢 Going off grid means you are not connect to 240 volt power.
🟢 When you stay on a powered site at a caravan park or holiday park you will use a 15A (as opposed to 10A) outlet to run 240 volt power to the power outlets in the caravan which allows the use of 240 volt household electrical appliances, for example your air conditioner, coffee machine or washing machine.
🟢 Going off grid means you are not connect to mains power and you are required to provide your own source of power.
🟢 Going off grid means you can not use 240 volt household appliances in your caravan. For example, you can not run your air conditioner or charge your laptop.
🟢 When Free Camping, at roadside rest areas, or camping at one of the many Australian parks and wildlife camps; you are typically staying somewhere that you can’t plug into 240 volt power. You will need to rely on battery to power what you need.
🟢 While off grid your caravan battery will provide power to the fridge, TV, radio, lights, water pump, hot water, range-hood and exhaust fan. These are the typical 12 volt caravan appliances.
🟢 To run an extra fridge, such as Waeco, you will need enough battery power to meet your power consumption.
🟢 Your caravan batteries will need to be recharge to continue providing power to your electrical appliance and to allow you to stay off grid for longer.
🟢 You need a source to recharge the batteries, such as solar.
🟢 Solar recharges your batteries while off grid.
🟢 You need a bank of batteries (storage) to meet your personal power consumption.
🟢 You need sufficient solar panels (and sun) to recharge your batters to keep up with your power consumption.
